DAVEIGA OPENS NEW BAKERY
We’re celebrating a grand opening! Last Saturday, the 29th, the formal handover of DAVEIGA’s NEW FACILITIES, located in the Los Acebos Industrial Park in Chantada, took place.
These facilities are located on a 12,000 m2 lot and have 5,000 m2 of
floor area, distributed as follows: 1,800 m2 of production space. When we decided to undertake this project, we set three objectives:
Objective 1:
EXPAND production capacity. We view this as a long-term project that will allow us to triple our current production capacity, while retaining our existing facilities. The new facilities will allow us to increase our production capacity from 5,000 kg of cookies per day (the capacity of two shifts at the current facilities) to 15,000 kg of cookies per day (including the new facilities).
Since mid-2019, we have been operating a night shift to keep up with the growth in orders over the past few years; this was a temporary situation that we had to address by expanding our production capacity.
Objective 2:
STRENGTHEN our mission as a social enterprise committed to the local community:
– FIRST AND FOREMOST. We prioritize the redistribution and generation of added value within the region. We chose local companies to carry out the construction, taking on risks and turning down the most financially attractive offers. We were convinced that this would be offset by the dedication and commitment of the companies ultimately hired—and that is exactly what happened. This decision turned into a success story of coordination and flexibility (between the construction company—the Daveiga Joint Venture, formed by SERVIUM (Lalín-Rodeiro) and Construcciones Vence (Rodeiro)—the engineering firm INDUTEC (Lugo), and the developer DAVEIGA). This made it possible to incorporate very significant improvements into the project’s final outcome. Nor was there any lack of commitment and good work from the other local companies that participated in the various stages of construction and installation: Monte Faro (Rodeiro), Valcarce (Lugo), LESACA (Fene), IDF (Lugo), SIRESCOM (Santiago), SEGURIDAD JAPÓN (Ourense), EFIGALIA (Chantada), CERRAJERÍA MARBE (Chantada), SISTEMAS DIGITALES (Chantada), and CARPINTERÍA LÍNCORA (Chantada). We are convinced that for all these companies, the uniqueness and quality of this project will contribute to the growth of their businesses. This is an example of local contribution and development—helping other companies grow as well! Furthermore, it was clear to us that supporting local companies was the only way to redistribute added value within the region—a commitment Daveiga has upheld since its inception.
– SECONDLY. These facilities are designed with people in mind. In the project design, we prioritize the comfort and well-being of the people who will use them (pleasant design, natural light, spacious areas, quality services, etc.). They also allow us to improve the work-life balance for all employees by organizing current production into a single shift with a continuous morning shift.
– THIRD. Innovation and environmental sustainability also play a major role in the project. The use and optimization of renewable energy (photovoltaic power generation for self-consumption combined with energy storage through hot and cold water), the use of less polluting fossil fuels (LNG), the use of rainwater for non-productive activities, the use of natural light, the use of highly recyclable materials, integration into the landscape, etc.
Objective 3:
STRENGTHEN our corporate and commercial identity: – Given the above, these facilities will also help convey a more modern and attractive image of Daveiga, which will result in an improvement in the project’s commercial image.
