About the Érguete Association of Vigo:

The Érguete Association was founded in 1984 as an initiative by a group of families with a common bond: the drug addiction of one of their children.

It was established in 1985 and became known for its fight against and exposure of drug trafficking, as well as for its call for professional, public, and treatment resources to address drug addiction. Due to the growing demand the Association received over the years, on October 25, 1989, an agreement was signed between the Autonomous Regional Drug Addiction Plan (P.A.D.), the Xunta de Galicia (Autonomous Government), and the Association, an agreement that established the Service for Legal and Social Information, Guidance, and Reintegration of Drug Users (SIORT). This service provides specialized and temporary assistance to users, addressing all their personal, legal, and social and employment-related needs.

As another step in the effort to fully integrate into society people who have struggled with drug addiction—and, more broadly, groups facing marginalization—the Érguete-Integración Foundation was established in 1999.

A good example of our association’s struggle is the 2005 documentary titled *Ni locas ni terroristas* (Neither Crazy Nor Terrorists), as well as the film based on the lives of Carmen Avendaño and the mothers of the Érguete Association, titled *HeroinaHoy*.

At the Association, we run various programs focused on counseling, training, education/rehabilitation, and prevention, as well as providing support to affected families and individuals by offering them therapeutic, social, and legal assistance and facilitating their reintegration into society.
