20 Years of Daveiga: When Time Proves a Model Right

Some projects begin with a clear idea. And others manage to sustain that idea over time.

Turning 20 isn't just a number. It's the sum of decisions, lessons learned, and convictions that, little by little, build something greater than a company: a model.

This is stated in the article published in Galicia Confidential, which highlights Daveiga's history as an example of rural development.

An Origin with a Purpose

Daveiga was founded with a motivation that remains relevant today: to demonstrate that value can be created in rural areas. The project began to take shape before its launch in 2005, with a very clear underlying vision: to return to our roots and, from there, build a business initiative that would have an impact on the local community.

From the outset, the approach was not solely focused on productivity. Instead, the organization adopted a participatory model linked to the social economy and characterized by a strong commitment to the local community.

Like any long-term project, the path has not been linear. Daveiga’s evolution has been marked by key moments: periods of growth, complex economic contexts, and the constant need to adapt. From its early years to surpassing millions of euros in revenue, its development has been gradual and sustained. Far from seeking rapid growth, the strategy has been different: to consolidate, learn, and move forward thoughtfully.

Learning to Appreciate

Experiences like “Da Escola á Granxa” are essential for helping new generations understand where the food they eat every day comes from.

For us, opening the doors of our home and sharing this knowledge is also a way to help young people appreciate the work of the agri-food sector and the essential role of rural communities in our society.

Innovating Based on Who We Already Are

One of the things that best defines these 20 years is the ability to evolve without losing one's identity.

Starting with a base product—the Mariñeiras—we have gradually built a product line that meets different needs and consumption occasions: new recipes, formats, and uses that expand the product’s reach without straying from its roots. In this case, innovation doesn’t mean changing everything. It means building on what already has value.

One of the most important lessons has been understanding that value lies not only in the product itself, but also in how it fits into everyday life. Its presence in sectors such as the hospitality industry—or its use as a base for canapés—has opened up new ways of consuming it, highlighting its functionality and versatility. Thus, it is no longer merely a food item but has become a true culinary tool.

Two decades later, Daveiga represents more than just a food company: it is an example of how the combination of local roots, innovation, and a coherent business model can make a real impact. Reaching our 20th anniversary isn’t an end in itself, but rather confirmation that the path we’ve chosen makes sense and that the future lies in continuing to build from the local level, with vision and with much more yet to come.
