Canapés con tostas de pan mariñeiras ® edición navidad
December brings the Christmas holidays. And with them comes a unique opportunity to surprise your guests—and, in some cases, attract new customers to your restaurant—with traditional holiday foods and seasonal decorations. In today’s post, we’d like to share some simple canapés that are perfect for this time of year.
Christmas Canapés
When the Christmas holidays roll around, restaurants fill up with diners eager to sample traditional local dishes. To whet your appetite, we’ve put together a selection of traditional Christmas canapés that will allow chefs to serve all tables at a leisurely pace without making diners impatient.
1. Manchego cheese and sun-dried tomatoes
This canapé is the perfect appetizer while we wait for the meal! Slice the Manchego cheese and place a slice on each piece of toast. Then take the sun-dried tomato and place it on top of the cheese. One tomato per slice of cheese is enough, but you can add two if you prefer. And finally, drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil on top. If you like, you can also add a little black pepper to taste before drizzling the oil. You’ll end up with a simple canapé that’s full of flavor.
2. Pâté and red berry jam
These canapés are very simple and delicious. All you have to do is spread the pâté on the toast and top them with a little jam and berries. Since these canapés only have two ingredients, you can make them smaller. To do that, you can use Mariñeiras® Especial Bocado bread toasts.
3. Iberian ham, goat cheese, and caramelized onions
All the Iberian ham canapés are delicious, but this one is, without a doubt, one of our favorites. First, we need to prepare the caramelized onions. Once that’s done, place a small slice of goat cheese on each piece of toasted bread, then add the Iberian ham, and top it with the caramelized onions. This is a canapé that fans of ham and strong cheese will love. If you don’t like caramelized onions, jam is a great alternative that also adds a touch of sweetness.
4. Gulas with Garlic
Gulas canapés are hot appetizers that are quick to prepare and very popular with diners. The garlic gulas canapé, in particular, is one of the simplest to make, since all you need to do is fry a little garlic in oil and mix it with the gulas in the pan for a few minutes.
Then add salt to taste, and it’s ready to serve with the canapés. Of course, we can’t pass up the chance to recommend the Galician-style gulas canapé. To make it, simply add a little oil and paprika to the garlic gulas canapé. If you have time, you can serve the canapé with a panadera potato between the slice of toast and the gulas. Absolutely delicious!
5. Eggplant with Brie, Balsamic Vinegar, and Crispy Onions
This canapé is perfect for vegetarians. The ingredients we need are eggplant, Brie cheese, crispy onions, balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and parsley. To prepare it, first slice and fry the eggplant over medium heat, then season with salt and parsley to taste. Once it’s ready, add the Brie so it melts from the heat. Then place it on the toasted bread slices, add a little balsamic vinegar, and top with crispy onions. Before adding the eggplant and Brie, make sure to drain the eggplant well so it isn’t too oily.
6. Serrano ham and cream cheese
This canapé is already a classic. It’s very easy to make and, on top of that, it’s delicious. The only ingredients you need are: sliced Serrano ham, cream cheese, and mayonnaise. First, cut the Serrano ham into small pieces and add them to a saucepan with the cream cheese and mayonnaise. Then stir until the mixture is smooth. Arrange the bread slices on a tray and spread the mixture on top. To make them just right, remember to use half as much mayonnaise as cream—this will make the spread more flavorful.
7. Mushrooms with Garlic
8. Goat Cheese and Honey
This delicious canapé has both sweet and savory notes. To make it, just follow a few simple steps. First, cut the goat cheese log into several slices—neither too thick nor too thin. Next, sauté the onion in a skillet along with small pieces of bacon, blueberries, pistachios, and honey. Next, take your canapé bread slices, arrange them on a tray, place a slice of goat cheese on each one, and spoon the filling over the slices.
9. Mini hamburgers with apple jam
Traditional hamburgers are a great choice any time of year, especially for the little ones at home. Since Christmas is such a special time, we can make these hamburgers in canapé form and decorate them with apple jam to give them an elegant touch. First, make the burgers small enough to fit on the toast. Next, prepare the apple jam. Place a peeled and finely chopped apple, one tablespoon of sugar, and 10 grams of butter in a saucepan, and simmer over low heat until the mixture is smooth and uniform. It’s ready to serve!
If you don't have time to make the jam, you can substitute it with a delicious marmalade. While it’s true that the Mariñeiras® Especial Canapé bread slices are too small, you can use the larger ones from the Natural variety instead. Even though the base isn’t as flat—since it’s a hamburger bun—it’s easy to place on top.
